EU Blue Card

This applies only in the specific situations listed below: 

• The employee holds an EU Blue Card issued by another EU Member State. 
• The business activities are in line with the EU Blue Card holder’s employment contract, which was drawn up in the country where the employee was granted the EU Blue Card. 
• The employee holds a long-term resident permit issued by another EU Member State. This person has also previously held an EU Blue Card. 
• The employee is coming to work in the Netherlands for a short period, up to 90 days (within a 180-day period). This applies to the following work activities: 
  • Attending meetings, either within or outside the company.
  • Making agreements with companies and organisations. 
  • Attending conferences or seminars. 
  • Negotiating business deals. 
  • Carrying out sales or marketing activities. 
  • Exploring business opportunities. 
  • Undertaking training. The employer is not required to notify the UWV of the work activities listed above. For all other work activities, or activities lasting longer than 90 days (within a period of 180 days), the employer must apply for a work permit. An employer in the Netherlands can apply for the EU Blue Card on behalf of an employee.
