Interview with cultural partner
Each month we give one of our Expert Partners the floor to introduce themselves and their services so you can ensure you are getting the most out of life in the Maastricht Region. This time we interviewed Sjoerd Aarts, Heritage collections curator at Maastricht Museum.
My name is Sjoerd Aarts, born and raised in Maastricht and working as a heritage collections curator at Maastricht Museum.
Maastricht Museum journeys through 4 major themes characterising Maastricht’s history, from prehistoric times to the Roman conquerers, to the Middle Ages and ending in the industrial era. We also tell the hidden stories of Maastricht through captivating temporary exhibitions.
Maastricht Museum has been a Programme Partner of Expat Centre Maastricht Region since its opening in June 2023.
How can your organisation add value to the lives of expats / internationals in the Maastricht Region?
Our museum gives expats an insight into the history of the city in which they currently reside. Our events bring the local and international communities together and facilitate social and educational interaction. We have facilitated exclusive events such as guided tours for internationals and expats.
What is in your opinion the best thing about living in the Maastricht Region?
I love its history, it is so incredibly rich. Maastricht has so many beautiful buildings, streets and hidden gems. Moreover, I really like the location. Only 30 minutes by car and you are in a different country, another language, better food ;). I also like the landscape, living in a polder is not for me.
How can expats / internationals contact your organisation?
Just stop by! We are located at Avenue Céramique 50 / Plein 92.
