Theater aan het Vrijthof
Expert Partner
As one of the leading theatres in the Netherlands, Theater aan het Vrijthof is Maastricht's cultural hub to stimulate cultural debate by presenting (inter)national companies from all genres.
Theater aan het Vrijthof
Since 1992, Theater aan het Vrijthof has been housed in the former General's House opposite the Vrijthof square. The theatre offers a widely accessible and artistically exciting theatre programme for Maastricht residents, the wider region, and sometimes far beyond. The theatre programme capitalises on Maastricht's unique position as a provincial capital, including performances by the professional and amateur companies based here, performances by students from the Conservatory and Theatre Academy, and events organised by Maastricht University. Theater aan het Vrijthof is the proud producer of Musica Sacra Maastricht and a longstanding partner of the Dutch Dance Days and other leading events in the city, such as André Rieu's Vrijthof Concerts and TEFAF.
Together with other cultural partners, Theater aan het Vrijthof is an important connecting point in the city. It is an accessible and welcoming place for everyone, where ‘togetherness’ is key. The theatre invites encounters, dialogue, connection, reflection, inspiration, innovation, and so much more. It is important that Theater aan het Vrijthof remains responsive to the changes in the world by being alert, by continuing to develop, and by adapting to new realities.
Theater aan het Vrijthof is a lively and vibrant meeting place where the doors are always open. Come and take a look!
